Valerie's Baby Shower

In case you don't already know, we have finally settled on a name for our third daughter. She is:

Valerie Joy

Ever since I read the Jim and Elisabeth Elliot biographies in high school, I have loved the name Valerie. (She was their only child and was 10 months old when Jim was killed. Elisabeth and Valerie remained in the Auca territory of Ecuador for several years before returning to the States.) Valerie means "strong/strength." Joy is my mom and sister's middle name. Together "Valerie Joy" has special meaning: THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH! We pray that this will be true in the life of our precious little girl.

A few weeks ago I bought a baby book for Valerie. As I was flipping through the pages, I thought about how sad it would be to not have any entries under the Baby Shower category. Not that we needed much in the way of supplies, since we already have two girls and all the baby "stuff" you can imagine. But, well, you know....just the whole idea of not having a shower to tell her about, an invitation to show her, pictures to look back on, etc. That's when my sweet friend, Kelly, called and wanted to know if I would be interested in a low-key open house style shower that she wanted to host. WOW! I was thrilled! Another friend from church is expecting a little girl just a month ahead of me and we could make it a combined event since we have many mutual church friends. It was perfect. The theme was "Back to Basics" and we both got lots of diapers, wipes, receiving blankets, onesies, lotion, baby wash, etc. Sierra and Ally loved helping me open all the gifts and then show them off to Marc when we got home. The setting was so relaxing and the food was delicious. Thanks, Kelly. You know how to throw a party!

Spring Break Recap **Lots of pictures!**

We had a wonderful Spring Break. In fact, it was a little too good. We "popped" most of those balloons, hardly took any naps and didn't get a single chore done around the house. Oh well! It was so fun to spend time together. Here's a brief recap with LOTS of pictures:

Monday & Tuesday:
We spent the first part of the week up at the cabin. There is still about a foot of snow in most places, but it is melting quickly. On Monday morning, we took a nice walk up the forest service road to a great look-out point over the creek. As always, the girls enjoyed reading and playing with Grandpa and Grandma Cook.

Sierra collected a bag of treasures along the way...rocks, twigs, pine cones, pieces of metal, etc.

Wednesday:
Since it was gray and rainy on Wednesday, we decided to try a relatively new indoor play zone in Boise called Rafiki. We had a coupon for a free admission, so it was quite affordable. The girls had a wonderful time playing at all the different stations.

Not pictured, but definitely the most exciting, was the climbing structure and slide. They also had fun using their wooden blocks to build some great cities.

Thursday:
It was still cold and windy, so we had to plan more indoor activities for Thursday. We started off with about an hour at POJO's before heading over to Barnes & Nobel for some book browsing. We also hit Target that afternoon and found this on sale for the girl's combined "big" birthday present in June. SHHHH!

Only in Idaho would you find a "toddler friendly" arcade game like this one!

Friday:

The weather cleared up nicely for a day at Zoo Boise with Aunt Susie and cousin Annie on Friday. We had a great time viewing the animals, riding the carousel, eating lunch and just being together. The lions put on quite a show for us in their new exhibit...complete with a nice loud growl and mane shaking.

On the way home we made another stop at Settler's Park and let the kids expend any ounce of energy that they might have had left in their tired little bodies.

Saturday:

After sleeping in and catching up on some laundry, the girls and I headed over to Kelly's house for a very fun baby shower in honor of our new little girl and another friend from church who is also expecting a little girl in a couple of weeks. I have a separate post for that event...so stay tuned. We had a great time and got lots of fun presents!

In the evening, we went over to Susie and Benjy's house for a birthday party for Uncle Chuck. It was a fun family time with a random Mexican theme. (No idea why!) Chuck had requested Mom's famous cinnamon rolls instead of birthday cake and we all enjoyed the change!

As you can see, it was a busy and exciting week. Now, it's time to tidy up the piles that have accumulated in every corner of the house, catch up on mail/blogs/etc. and get the girls back on a regular schedule. ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz......

Spring Break - The Beginning

As of 3:15 on Friday afternoon we have officially been on Spring Break! Friday was another beautiful, sunny day and the perfect way to bring in the new season. That afternoon, the girls and I made an idea wall of all the activities that we would enjoy doing together as a family over the next week. I wrote each idea on a balloon cut-out and we taped them up on the wall. Each day we will get to pick two or three balloons for that day's activities. As you can see, they came up with everything from a trip to Krispy Kreme for some doughnuts to a return visit to the Discovery Center in Boise. It looks like it will be a fun week! Of course, there will have to be some "chores" to fit in as well. I am anxious to get the garage reorganized while Marc is around to help move the boxes and we need to do some serious work in the girl's closet to make room for Valerie's things. But to start things off, we are heading up to Garden Valley for a couple of days. Mom and Dad spend their Mondays up at the cabin and we are going to join them for some good mountain fun! I'll be back at the end of the week with pictures of all our adventures.

A Day at the Park

Although it started out gray and chilly, today turned into a beautiful day for a picnic at the park! I had my doubts, mind you. At 10:00a.m. I almost called my friend Julie to cancel our kids' play date. Boy, am I glad that I didn't. By the time that we arrived at Tully Park at 11:00a.m. the sun was shining and we were into the 50's. It was a perfect day to let the kids run around outside and then spread out our blankets for a picnic. Shawna and Jerina joined us and we had quite a group of friends to talk and play with. Can't wait for many, many more days like this.

You know you're in the last trimester when...

• You can no longer reach the clothes at the bottom of the washing machine.
• You burn your belly on a cookie sheet while trying to bake those no-no peanut butter bars.
• Your right arms gets all tingly while just trying to color a princess picture with your daughter.
• You wake up five times every night - twice to use the restroom and three times from leg cramps.
• You can't walk up 10 steps without gasping for breath.
• You get sick of answering the question, "How are you feeling?"
• You've been to Golden Spoon three times this week already.
• You notice people's eyes pop out when they see your belly quiver.
• You have to put your diamond ring in a safe place for a few weeks so that it doesn't cut off the circulation to your ring finger.
• You have to ask for help to tie your shoe-laces.

If you've been there you can probably add a dozen more items to the list! Isn't pregnancy great?! (No really, Missy, it is!!!) Here's to 30 weeks down and 10 to go! Cheers.

What's not to love?

I have been struggling with serious writer's block on this blog lately - just can't think of anything funny or important to mention. Even my camera battery hasn't needed much charging up lately. (Guess I'm just tired of the dark, blurry, indoor shots. C'mon SPRING!) Yet, our daily lives continue to be full of laughter and blessings. Here are some simple moments that make us smile...

Sierra models the new (smaller!) bunk beds as we make room for the crib in the girls' sleeping room. Yes, they are all going to pile in there so that we can keep the play-room for now. (Again, notice the princess pajamas. Do you see a trend?)


My Ally girl loves to sit on the counter and "help" with the cooking.


She thought that her "butterfly wings" hair-do was so funny after I pulled out her pig-tails at bedtime a few days ago. Nice smile!

So, there you have it...the little things that make up daily life around here.

Mondays

Mondays are catch-up days at the Mouser house. After a busy weekend, it is nice to have a day to get everything in order again. Saturdays are family days and Sundays are full of church activities...but Mondays are for staying home! On my To-Do list today is: laundry, leisurely baths for the girls, cleaning the blasted mouse cage, some dusting, meal-prep, and catching up on e-mail. Not too bad. I can't imagine having to get ready for work, dropping the kids off somewhere and then coming home exhausted at the end of the day. It certainly has it's trade-offs, but I love being a stay-at-home Mommy.
